When we talk about HSPA(High Speed Packet Access) we talk about how technology combine between HSDPA(High Speed Downlink Packet Access) with HSUPA(High Speed Uplink Packet Access). This technology is to improve WCDMA protocol. The next technology HSPA will be call HSPA+.
HSPA is optimize how BTS and Terminal communicate with improved protocol to optimize the usage of radio. HSPA speed can go through 14Mb/s for downlink and 5.8Mb/s for uplink. The speed it self can improve until 5 times for downlink and twice for uplink compare with the previous version of WCDMA technology.
Unlike Wimax technology that need the dedicated infrastructure, HSPA only need to upgrade from the existing 3G infrastructure. It give head-start of HSPA from the wimax.
The next generation of HSPA is called HSPA + or also known as HSPA evolution, I-HSPA or Internet-HSPA. HSPA+ give data rate up to 42 Mbit/s for downlink and 11 MBit/s.
With this high data rate customer can be provided much more service by the telecommunication operator. Application like video and audio which required high data rate can be execute with good quality. HSPA it self has been developed and commercially launch in over than 200 operators in more than 80 country. With the less of investment compare with WIMAX that need more investment, because required dedicated network infrastructure. Telecommunication operator can deploy it more fast.
