When we talk about HSPA(High Speed Packet Access) we talk about how technology combine between HSDPA(High Speed Downlink Packet Access) with HSUPA(High Speed Uplink Packet Access). This technology is to improve WCDMA protocol. The next technology HSPA will be call HSPA+.
HSPA is optimize how BTS and Terminal communicate with improved protocol to optimize the usage of radio. HSPA speed can go through 14Mb/s for downlink and 5.8Mb/s for uplink. MS: is your phone
BTS (Base Transceiver Station) : this is a tower to transmit and receive signaling from MS
BSC (Base Station Controller) : For controlling some BTS.
MSC (Mobile Switching Center) : it handle switching functionality, sets up and release end to end connection.
HLR (Home Location Register) : central database that contains details of each mobile phone subscriber that is authorized to use the GSM core network
